Rebecca Court booked her return to Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in the SEIB Racehorse to Riding Horse (R2R) final, scoring with her super-consistent Beware Chalk Pit — known as Perfect Pete.   This will be the 12-year-old’s third HOYS appearance, having qualified on this spot on his first attempt two years ago and at Houghton Hall last year, both times with producer Justine Armstrong-Small.
“This year I really wanted to qualify Pete myself,” said Rebecca. “I was third with him at Stretcholt and third with him at Keysoe, so just missed out on our ticket. I was delighted to have secured it here today.”  The handsome bay also successfully contests riding horse classes, and has qualified for Royal International (RIHS) in that category.   “He loves his job and is my horse of a lifetime,” Rebecca concluded.

Another versatile combination heading for the large riding horse class at RIHS took the second ticket. Hannah Chisman and her 12-year-old versatile former chaser Nicene Creed (Mickey) are also through to the SEIB Search for a Star hack and riding horse final at HOYS, and recently contested their first side saddle class.   “It still doesn’t feel real – I think it must have been a dream and then I see Mickey with all his plaques on his door,” said Malvern-based Hannah, 27, a full-time mother to seven-month-old Harry. “Then it sinks in — we really have qualified and are going to HOYS.”

“The standard in these series is continuing to improve year on year and it’s lovely to hear so many lovely stories,” said SEIB marketing manager Nicolina Mackenzie. “It proves you should never give up and there is always a chance to live your dream.
“We are also very pleased to report that all tests for prohibited substances carried out so far this year have come back negative. SEIB continues to support ethical showing and let’s all hope that any future testing also returns a negative result.”
