  • CLASS 1A

    WORKING PONY

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    122cms to under 148cms. Ponies 5 years and over. Riders 12 years or over on 1st January 2022. Riders will be asked to give a short show and jump two fences at 2ft and 2ft 3in. The required show will be published on the website so competitors will have time to practice! Adults and children may enter and ride ponies in this class as long as their weight and size is appropriate, decision of the judge is final on the suitability of horse and rider. Unsuitable combinations will be eliminated. Class judged on 50% conformation, temperament, type and manners and 50% performance. Judges will ensure that conformation and temperament will allow the pony to be a competent all round performer, capable of doing most work including jumping and dressage. Harmony of pony and rider will be taken into account. Jumping style and approach is important and the judges will not ride. The same bridle must be worn throughout and snaffle bridles will not be penalised, no gags and martingales are optional. 1st will qualify at Judge’s discretion.

  • CLASS 1B

    WORKING HORSE

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    Horses 148cms and over. Horses 5 years and over. Riders 12 years or over on 1st January 2022. Riders will be asked to give a short show and jump two fences at 2ft 3in and 2ft 6in. The required show will be published on the website so competitors will have time to practice! Adults and children may enter and ride horses in this class. Riders must not be over-horsed and the decision of the judge is final on the suitability of the horse and rider. Unsuitable combinations will be eliminated. Judged on 50% conformation, temperament, type and manners and 50% performance. Judges will ensure that conformation and temperament allows the horse to be a competent all round performer, capable of doing most work including jumping and dressage. Harmony of horse and rider will be taken into account. Jumping style and approach is important. The judges will not ride. Snaffle bridles will not be penalised, but the same bridle must be worn throughout and, no gags and martingales optional. Tweed or show jackets. Rosettes to 6th place. 1st will qualify at Judge’s discretion.

  • CLASS 2

    SHOW HUNTERS

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    Exceeding 153cms, 5 years and over. Riders 15 years or over on 1st January 2022. Class will not be divided into different weights. Tweed jacket. Rosettes to 6th place. 1st and 2nd qualify at judges discretion.

  • CLASS 3

    RIDING HORSE/HACK

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    Hacks exceeding 148cms not exceeding 160cms, riding horse exceeding 148cms, 5 years or over. Riders 15 years or over on 1st January 2022. Riding horse – tweed jacket. Hack – show jacket. The best of type will win. Rosettes to 6th place. 1st and 2nd qualify at judges discretion. At HOYS, championship rosettes will be awarded to both a riding horse and a hack (subject to horses forward to Horse of the Year Show) and they will both qualify for the final championship at the judge’s discretion.

  • CLASS 4

    SHOW COBS & MAXI COBS EXCEEDING 148cms

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    Show & maxi cobs, best of type will win. Maxi cobs should be true to type and all cobs should be hogged. Riders 15 years or over on the 1st January 2022 and horses 5 years or over. Tweed jacket. Rosettes to 6th place. 1st and 2nd qualify at judges discretion.

  • CLASS 5

    SEIB RACEHORSE TO RIDING HORSE

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    Horses 4 years of age and over, riders 15 years of age and over on 1st January 2022. 1st and 2nd will qualify except at Hartpury and Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials where only the 1st will qualify.

  • CLASS 6

    TRADITIONAL GYPSY COBS ALL COLOURS

    Qualify for Horse of the Year Show

    Horses 5 years or over. No stallions. Open to horses and ponies registered as a traditional gypsy cob within the TGCA stud book. Part-breds not eligible – see Class 9 for Part-breds. Riders 12 years and over on January 1st 2022. Any queries about horse registration contact TGCAheadoffice@gmail.com. Owners and riders do not have to be a member of the TGCA but horses have to be registered in the TGCA traditional gypsy cob stud book.

    Traditionals will not be ridden by the judge or the judge‘s representative, but will give a show. The traditional gypsy cob should be a strong, sturdy and powerful cob coupled with an abundance of luxuriant flowing mane, forelock, tail, and leg hair known as feather.

    1st and 2nd will qualify at judge’s discretion.

  • CLASS 7

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Ponies must meet the breed standard, be registered in the relevant stud book and riders must be 8 years of age on the date of the competition or over.

    1st and 2nd placed will qualify at judges discretion.

  • CLASS 8

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR OPEN RIDDEN VETERAN HORSE AND PONY

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Open to any horse or pony 16 years of age or over. Riders 10 years of age or over on the date of the competition. No restrictions other than age on horse, pony or rider. Will be asked to extend and must be able to canter together as one class. The horse or pony will not be ridden and the competitor will be expected to give a show. Horses may be ridden side saddle.

    1st placed will qualify at judges discretion.

  • CLASS 9

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR TRADITIONAL PART-BRED GYPSY COB

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Horse or pony can be any colour or type as not limited to coloured horses. No stallions. Not ridden by the judge – horse and rider to give a show. Horses 5 years of age and over in year of competition. Riders over 12 years of age on 1st January 2022.

    1st placed horse to qualify for Your Horse Live.

    Wildcard for 1st placed to compete at Traditional of the Year (TOYS) hosted by the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association.

  • CLASS 10

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR PONY CLUB RIDDEN LEADING REIN PONY

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Only Open to members of the Pony Club aged 10 and under but over 5 on 1st January 2022.

    Riders, owners and handlers must meet the SFAS amateur criteria.

    Horses and ponies that have been placed in the Pretty Polly Championships at RIHS are eligible to compete in the Pony Club Search for a Star Pony Club classes.

    Pony must be 12.2hh or under and meet the Search for a Star Amateur criteria. Snaffle bridles only.

    Horses and ponies that have been placed in the Pretty Polly Championships at RIHS are eligible to compete in the Pony Club Search for a Star Pony Club classes.

    Pony must be over 4 years old.

    Lead rein must be attached to the noseband and not the bit and the child should be able to rise to the trot. Judged on conformation, way of going and temperament to be able to take part in Pony Club activities with a young child, pony will not be stripped but will give a show. Lunging will be allowed, if the venue permits, but the pony must only be ridden by the competitor. Handlers of the lead rein pony should be suitably dressed with a hat and suitable footwear, ponies to be plaited unless they are registered mountain and moorland, traditional or native types.

    1st placed to qualify for Your Horse Live. Special prize for best rider.

  • CLASS 11

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR PONY CLUB RIDDEN FIRST RIDDEN TYPE

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Only Open to members of the Pony Club aged 10 and under but over 5 on 1st January 2022.

    Riders and owners must meet the SFAS amateur criteria. Pony must be 12.2hh or under and meet the Search for a Star Amateur criteria. Pony must be over 4 years old.

    Horses and ponies that have been placed in the Pretty Polly Championships at RIHS are eligible to compete in the Pony Club Search for a Star Pony Club classes.

    Must be ridden independently but will not be asked to canter as a class. Snaffle bridles only. Will be asked to give a show and canter can be included, ponies will be stripped for conformation. Lungeing will be allowed, if the venue permits, but the pony must only be ridden by the competitor. Ponies to be plaited unless they are registered mountain and moorland, native or traditional types.

    1st to qualify for Your Horse Live.

    Special prize for best rider.

    Rosettes for all, placed down to 6th.

  • CLASS 12

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR PONY CLUB RIDDEN OPEN HORSE OR PONY

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Only Open to members of the Pony Club aged over 10 on 1st January 2022.

    Riders and owners must meet the SFAS amateur criteria. Open to ponies and horses that meet the Search for a Star Amateur criteria. (Class may be split subject to entries) Horse or pony must be over 4 years old.

    Horses and ponies that have been placed in the Pretty Polly Championships at RIHS are eligible to compete in the Pony Club Search for a Star Pony Club classes.

    Will be asked to give a show, will be stripped for conformation. Lungeing will not be allowed anywhere on the showground. Horses and ponies to be plaited unless they are registered mountain and moorland, native or traditional types.

    The animal should be an athletic type capable of doing all round Pony Club activities. The class will be judged on conformation, way of going and temperament. The horse or pony will not be ridden by the judge but the competitor will be asked to give a set show. Open to any type of horse or pony that is athletic enough to be an all-rounder but correct enough to be a show horse.

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR AMATEUR IN-HAND PLAITED HORSE INCLUDING HOGGED SHOW COB

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Horses over 15hh, handlers 15 years of age or over on the date of the competition. Horses 4 years of age or over. Any type of plaited show horse or hogged show cob is eligible, best of type on the day will win.

    1st placed horse to qualify. Horses must be shown in a bridle with a bit.

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR AMATEUR IN-HAND PLAITED PONY

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Ponies 15hh or under, handlers 10 years of age or over on the date of the competition. Ponies 4 years of age or over. Any type of plaited pony, best of type on the day will win.

    1st placed pony to qualify. Ponies must be shown in a bridle with a bit.

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR AMATEUR IN-HAND TRADITIONAL AND NATIVE TYPE

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    Handlers 10 years of age or over on the date of the competition. Horses/ponies 4 years of age or over. Any type of native or traditional horse or pony is eligible, best of type on the day will win.

    1st placed horse to qualify. Horses/ponies must be shown in a bridle with a bit.

  • CLASS 16

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR AMATEUR IN-HAND VETERAN HORSE OR PONY

    Qualify for Your Horse Live

    16 years of age or over on the date of the competition. Handlers 10 years of age or over. Any type of veteran horse or pony is eligible but horse or pony, owner and handler must fit the amateur SEIB Search for a Star rules, best of type on the day will win. Handler and horse may have competed at HOYS but ONLY in the Search for a Star series, the rest of the amateur rules stand.

    Horses or ponies that have been placed in the SSDL Championship at RIHS are eligible to compete in the Veteran in-hand Search for a Star class.

    1st placed horse or pony to qualify. Horses must be shown in a bridle with a bit.

  • CLASS 17

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR AMATEUR IN-HAND MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND

    All breed standards expected in the ridden class stand. Handlers 10 years of age or over on the date of the competition. Horses/ponies 4 years of age or over. Animals should not be plaited.

    1st placed pony to qualify. Ponies must be shown in a bridle with a bit.

  • CLASS 18

    SEIB SEARCH FOR A STAR WORKSHOP

    ONLY ON 11TH JUNE AND 23RD JULY.
    Competitors competing in SEIB Search for a Star or SEIB Racehorse to Riding Horse on the following day will have priority to take part, but spectators are welcome who will be invited to make a donation for charity. The SEIB team will provide help and advice on how to show your horse or pony, They will help you to choose the best class and show you how to improve the overall picture. They will work on your way of going, turnout, trot up and share their showing secrets.

    Some questions that we will answer:
    Do you know if you are in the right class? Is there anything you can do to make your horse or pony stand out? How do you teach your horse or pony to stand up for the judge and trot up properly? Do you want to learn more about tack and turn-out? Do you need help with your horse of pony’s way of going? Should you clip or not? What does a super plait look like and how do you do it? Should you pull or plait a tail and what is the best length for it to be? What should you wear?
