Employees at SEIB Insurance Brokers were recently given the chance to donate £10,000 to a charity of their choice. The SEIB team decided that Kent based charity, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness would be the worthy recipients of this generous donation.

FASD Awareness is a charity that seeks to raise awareness of the effects of consuming alcohol during pregnancy. FASD is a group of conditions that affect people as a result of pre-natal alcohol exposure. People affected by FASD can suffer from a range of complex lifelong issues including physical, mental, emotional and psychological difficulties.

Financial Director at SEIB, Bipin Thaker said: “SEIB has supported various small charities over the past few years and it is satisfying to see the difference our donations make to the work done by these charities. It is always inspiring to see the dedication of the volunteers and the outcomes that they achieve for those they are helping.”

FASD Awareness seeks to support and educate both parents and children affected by FASD. Tracy Allen, Co-founder of FASD Awareness, said: “We are so grateful to SEIB. We rely heavily on donations to continue our work and this amazing donation really means a lot to us and will enable us to grow the services we offer to those living with FASD and their parents and carers. Thank you so very much from us all.

“The SEIB donation will enable us to fund a part-time member of staff to manage the increase in demand from services users and kick start a major social media campaign highlighting FASD. It will also enable us to train new volunteers, purchase sensory play equipment and organise more family activities, as well as giving us the resources to reach out to professionals to raise awareness of FASD and offer bespoke training where required.”

Sales Executive at SEIB, Steven English and his family have personally benefitted from FASD Awareness. Steven said: ‘’We’ve known the charity FASD Awareness since my wife started writing blogs for them in early 2018. We’ve attended events and Tracy has been a massive support to us whilst we’ve had various issues with our son especially through education. This charity is very close to our hearts as we live with FASD each and every day and we help wherever we can to promote awareness of the disability and to show how it is 100% preventable.”

SEIB regularly supports small and local charities both through donations and fundraising initiatives by SEIB employees. The company provides insurance cover for a number of charities and has done so since its inception nearly 60 years ago. SEIB’s parent company, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group is renowned for having a strong culture of charitable giving.

FASD Awareness aims:

Existing provisions for individuals with FASD is very limited as it is still a much misunderstood and misdiagnosed condition. Those living with it and their parents/carers and families struggle to get the support they need to be as independent and successful in life as possible.

In the last two years, we have seen a considerable increase in the number of families seeking our help and in order for FASD awareness to be able to fully support individuals with FASD and their families/carers we must ensure that we have access to larger and more accessible premises, so we can accommodate this increase in demand for our services.

The move will enable us to run support groups and activities for 11 months of the year and to reach out to more individuals with FASD and their families and carers , offering practical guidance, hands on support and signposting to appropriate professional services.. We will also have the facilities to undertake activities such as Sensory play, Lego therapy, Art therapy, Techno play and Music therapy as well as to train new volunteers and offer bespoke training courses for parents, carers, health professionals, teachers, justice professionals and service providers.

The generous donation received from SEIB will enable us fund a part time member of staff to manage the increase in demand from services users and kick start a major social media campaign highlighting FASD. It will also enable us to train new volunteers, purchase sensory play equipment and organise more family activities, as well as giving us the resources to reach out to professionals to raise awareness of FASD and offer bespoke training where required.
