SEIB are proud to have up-and-coming show producer and event rider Hannah Horton as a brand ambassador.
When she was just 5 years old, Hannah won the title of Supreme Horse and Pony of the Year at Horse of the Year show riding her lead-rein pony, Greylands Little Gem. This early taste of success has continued unabated and Hannah is now making a name for herself producing show and event horses through the levels. Hannah is well on track to achieve her career aims of competing at 5-star level in eventing and consistently being a top performer in the show ring.
The 2020 season provided a great opportunity for Hannah to consolidate her winning ways with the horses she produces for showing and eventing from her busy base near Newbury. Hannah has hit the ground running in 2021 with championship wins within days of the competition circuit reopening after lockdown. The yard is very much a team effort with long-term support from Mr Richard and Mrs Marjorie Ramsay and her mother, Helen Horton.
This small, highly professional yard prides itself in producing horses for their loyal owners, many of whom have enjoyed much success over the long-term with Hannah and the Ramsay’s. Hannah is enthusiastic to speak to any potential new owners about the exciting horses they may have be they eventers of show horses.
We caught up with Hannah to find out more about the horses she has been out competing with and her plans for these horses for the year ahead.
Hannah had a brilliant result with Lucinda Freedman’s middleweight hunter, Big Ben last September. The pair took the Supreme title at the Wiltshire Show. This followed up a 3rd place at HOYS in 2019 and Hannah and Big Ben also had success in 2020 in novice working hunter classes including taking the novice working hunter championship at the BSHA Autumn Gala show. Hannah and Big Ben have spent the winter months preparing for their working hunter debut this season – they have been doing well in 1.05m and 1.10m jumping classes. The pair are entered and ready to go for both novice and open working hunter classes at the Wiltshire Spring Show.
Julia Watts’ riding horse, Salute V is another young horse Hannah and the team have very high hopes for. Hannah spent the 2020 season showing Salute V the ropes, including winning the riding horse class at the BSHA Autumn Gala Show. Just prior to lockdown the pair were out competing in dressage and won two novice dressage classes scoring over 71% in both tests. Julia is set to take over the reins on her talented horse for the 2021 show season.
Lightweight hunter, Assagart Adventure won his class at the 2020 Wiltshire Show for his owner Lucinda Freedman. Having spent the winter continuing his education with Hannah for his first full show season in 2021, Assagart Adventure came out at Dallas Burston and won his RIHS qualifier at the first time of trying. Following this exciting win, Hannah will take him to a few more shows before aiming at HOYS qualifiers when they get underway.
Eileen Jenkin’s homebred gelding, Buriana Lark Rise is another horse in the yard that has a lot to look forward to. Following 2nd place in the Intermediate Show Horse class at HOYS 2019, the pair took the champion riding horse title at the Three Counties Show and then went on to win the riding horse class at the BHSA Autumn Gala Show last season. In their two outings so far this season, they have enjoyed two wins, a reserve and a champion title. Hannah and Buriana Lark Rise won the riding horse class at Dallas Burston and took reserve and then won and picked up the champion title – and their RIHS ticket – at the BSPS Area 15 show for a delighted Eileen.
Coloured pony, Champlers Allsorts competes in non-native pony classes with Hannah and won every time out in 2020. Champlers Allsorts was bred by her owner, Rosemary Obbard and has been in the yard with Hannah producing her since she was a three-year-old. She has already qualified for RIHS 2021 and will head to the Wiltshire Spring Show for her first outing of the season.
Lady Sue Huntingdon’s Connemara pony, Tulla Brick Duke will be aimed at M&M working hunter pony classes this season. Tulla Brick Duke and Hannah had their first outing at the BSPS Area 15 Show in a flat class and will shortly be out for their first working hunter pony class. Hannah previously had great success with Lady Huntingdon’s top Connemara pony, Slieve Bloom Jill with the pair twice winning at HOYS.
Another exciting horse is Sea Patrol who was bred by Marjorie and Richard Ramsay and has now been bought by Helen for her daughter to ride. Before lockdown Hannah and Sea Patrol had several dressage outings and will now aim at getting out for an open large hack class in early May.
Finally, the horse that Hannah hopes to take advanced eventing in 2021 – and ultimately would like to compete at 5-star level, Its Lush, followed up a strong end to the 2020 eventing season with a top 10 placing first time out this season at Tweseldown in a competitive intermediate section. Hannah and this striking bay gelding have enjoyed success through the levels of eventing and finished in the top 20 at the Bicton International horse trials in October 2020.
Hannah and her team are a great support to SEIB, providing horses and premises for photoshoots, sharing their knowledge for the SEIB ‘How to’ videos and Hannah has featured in advertising for over a year, she is an exceptional model!
